Brighton teenager Christopher Frangou was put through his paces a fortnight ago before embarking on the most exciting journey of his short soccer career to date.
The 17-year-old is trying his luck in England, where he has been invited to try out for Ipswich Town Football Club. The famous club, which competes in the Football League Championship (the second highest division in English soccer behind the Premier League), is currently coached by soccer legend Roy Keane.
Frangou, who plays for Oakleigh Cannons’ under-18 team, will undergo strict training and dietary regimes in a bid to score a full-time contract with the club. Peter Nikolakopoulos of Football Star Academy, who been Frangou’s specialist coach for the past five years, has no doubt the teenager will succeed.
‘‘He has a great understanding of the game and is very advanced in his thinking,’’ he said.
“Chris has what it takes to play soccer professionally and I want to make sure I am doing everything I can to make it happen for him.”
