Babies abreast of trends

BAYSIDE'S breastfeeding rates have increased with more than 50 per cent of babies continuing to be breastfed at six months of age, according to the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development 2010/2011 annual report.

Bayside mayor Louise Cooper-Shaw credited the rise to a DVD launched last year to support mothers and fathers of breastfed children.

The report also showed the council’s maternal and child health program participation rates for children in that age group were the highest in the Southern Metropolitan Region for the second consecutive year.
